Oil change at 7.5hrs engine side, 15hrs gearbox side (split system 530) with filter every other engine oil change, so every 15hrs (small capacity on engine oil on these bikes) If l had a later bike, l would do oil at 15hrs and filter every other change - so filter every 30hrs.
Nov 21, 2020. Oddometer: 84. Location: Seattle. The reason the oil change interval is so short really has nothing to do with loss of lubricity. Because it is a combined sump, 15 hrs of hard trail riding will leave the oil full of clutch liner which clogs the pickup screen and starves the cam of oil.
Why not change the oil at 2,000 miles and the filters and pick up screens at mfr intervals which I think is About 4500 miles. Maybe try a 20w-50 because 10w-60 is such a wide viscosity spread it can't help but shear.

I made up a tool to remove the fork cap. removed the forks, drained and measured oil in each leg, then refilled. I used Motorex 5W. So the dealer that sold me the bike didnt say anything specific about oil, and the local KTM dealer closest to me just uses 15w-50 rock oil. Scuderia, and Pinit which are both quite abit further from me say only to use motorex 10w-60 like it says in the manual.
Yes, the performance of your shock with those kind of miles is significantly worse than a rebuilt shock with fresh oil. I promise their is a service interval for your adventurous bike. you can justify your cheapness and laziness any which way you want but your shock isn’t working as good as it could be.
