The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is a 21.0 effective megapixel full-frame CMOS digital single-lens reflex camera made by Canon, the first Canon EOS camera to have video recording capabilities. It succeeds the EOS 5D and was announced on 17 September 2008. On 2 March 2012, Canon announced the camera's successor: the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. The 4th generation model of Canon’s best-selling full-frame EOS camera EOS 5D Mark IV comes equipped with 30.4megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and highly sought-after Dual pixel CMOS AF. High-speed, high-precision AF is realized not only for stills, but also for 4K movie shooting, making pro-level footage a possibility.

At 8 fps live view, the a7R III sometimes just goes out-of-focus then snaps back, Canon's iTR can be very jumpy, and Nikon's 3D tracking is more or less perfect. For what it's worth (since Dan and Sally didn't test this) in our tests, the Sony performed more consistently at 10fps without live view. For the full breakdown, check out the video

One of the key differences between the Canon 5D Mark III and the Nikon D800, is its shooting speed of 6 frames per second (fps) versus 4 frames per second on the D800. Granted, the Canon 5D Mark III has a lot fewer pixels to process in comparison (with smaller RAW/JPEG files to write), which is why it is a faster camera.
